Sawyer's patent named "Aerial Galleries" relates "to a structure for the convenience of persons who wish to view a town and the surrounding country from an elevated stand-point." His intent is to provide "a place where large numbers of people can be safely and expeditiously raised to a sufficiently elevated position to obtain a good view of the city, without the severe toil of climbing..."
