Description
Atkins's patent has numerous improvements including: "First, in constructing a governing-device of very small dimensions, and in rotating the same at a very high speed, so as to secure high centrifugal force with very slight inertia, and a capacity for very rapid change in the rate of movement. Second, in arranging the parts of said governing-device so that its centrifugal weights shall move always in a plane perpendicular to their axis of motion." (Patent number 85,779)
