Warne stated “My invention consists of a mace, having a hollow head, of India rubber or other elastic material, and a rigid stem of metal, so that while the mace may be effective for inflicting temporary disabling blows, it will not inflict the permanent injuries frequently imparted by rigid staves. (Patent Number 83,228)
