John Pettit’s improved washing machine patent “relates to a
metal-bucket plunger washing-machine, operated either by a
crank or lever, as convenience may suggest.” The “crank-and plunger combination makes the washing easy and rapid, and at the same time without danger of injuring the articles.” (Patent Number 228,272)
