Sawyer’s patent is for “a simple and effective method of securing the isochronous action of Instruments for transmitting by telegraph autographic copies of messages…” Sawyer was one of the pioneering inventors in incandescent electric
lighting. He was awarded more than forty patents in his short life. (Patent #196,832)
