This image of Eleutherian Mills shows the du Pont family home located above the salpeter refinery building which was used in the manufacturing of DuPont gunpowder.
The figure of Elèuthere Irénée du Pont appears on the piazza holding the bullhorn which enabled him to speak to the workmen in the gunpowder yards below.
