Description
This jacket belonged to Admiral Samuel Francis du Pont. It is an example of a sack coat used by U.S Navy officers as their “service dress” or “sea service” uniform. “Service dress” was the uniform worn while serving at sea or on shore duty when a dressier uniform was not required. The jacket includes the rank insignia for Rear-Admiral.
