Description
A set of epaulets for a Lieutenant-Colonel of Artillery in the US Army. The silver oak leaves are for the rank and the red background denotes that the branch of service is artillery. These belonged to Henry A. du Pont when he received the brevet rank of Lieutenant-Colonel for his actions in the Battle of Cedar Creek, Virginia on October 19, 1864 and then was later commissioned Lieutenant-Colonel on March 23, 1865.
