Description
Some powder flask makers had signature flask shapes as well as designs. G. & J. W. Hawksley of Sheffield, England, was well-known for their “hand fitting” flask form. This form is similar to the standard pear-shape found with most powder flasks. The only difference is that Hawksley hand-fitting flasks have a slightly more pointed base. This design supposedly made Hawksley flasks easier to grasp than their competitors. Hand-fitting flasks were made with a wide variety of designs. This flask is decorated in a unique pattern that uses foliage imagery and geometric patterns.

Gunpowder was sold in bulk and gunpowder flasks were used to carry gunpowder when out in the field.
