Description
Todd described her patent saying it "consists of a light staff or wand of wood, of graceful form, three to five feet long, having at each end a ball of gutta-percha or like substance, two or four inches in diameter; the object of my invention being to afford aid and assistance to persons in skating or in learning to skate, the 'wand' being used for the purpose, either as a balancing-pole, or for placing or resting one of the balls on the ice to gain steadiness, the gutta-percha giving it a hold on the ice to prevent slipping." (Patent Number 126,999)
