Description
Beaumont's patent for an improved stilt consisted of a lever, "which projects over the lugs... and is provided with a spring... that throws the lever against the rod... to hold it at any point of adjustment. The weight of the stilt-walker bears on the long end of lever, and compels the serrated end... to gripe the rod with great firmness." (Patent Number 168,213)
