Standford's patent "relates to a simple, cheap, and effective form of bed-bottom, consisting essentially of a series of arched or cambered slats, whose ends are sprung into and confined by sockets in a pair of cross-rails, into which sockets cushions, of India rubber, have been previously inserted."
