Description
Earle's patent "relates to a new fastening attachment to a chimney-stop or plate for holding the same in place so that it will effectually prevent sparks and fire from entering the room through the hole in the chimney. The invention consists in the application of an expansible elliptical spring to the inner side of the plate, which spring is enlarged after the plate is applied to fasten it to the chimney." (Patent Number 118,521)
