Corliss's patent "relates to those stem-winding watch movements that are intended to be equally adapted to open-faced and hunting cases, and are now more or less known to the trade as 'interchangeable' watch-movements; and it is applicable only to those movements in which there is no fourth-staff second-hand, though there may be a center or sweep second-hand."
