Description
Horsford's patent introduces "into the water-tight compartments or cavities of a fire-proof safe a porous body, which will hold in suspension the greatest possible quantity of water." The filling is made by combining water with starch which is then boiled to make it gelatinize. Finally, plaster-of-paris is then added to the solution which then is put into the water-tight compartment of the safe. (Patent Number 39,921)
