Walker's patent "has for its object to produce an improved apparatus for heating and drying granular substances, such as sand, pulverized stone, earth, fine coal, or other minerals, preparatory to their incorporation with asphaltum, tar, or other material for the formation of bricks, paving-blocks, artificial stone, and different varieties of concrete."
