Vancleve's patent is an instrument "in which a clock or other time-keeper is combined with one or more revolving pointers, representing a train or trains running in one direction, and one or more pointers representing a train or trains running in the contrary direction, and arranged in accordance with the graduations of the clock-dial and with the running-time of the trains..." (Patent Number 89,524)
