Description
Wainwright's invention "relates to the combination and arrangement of a ball suspended by a cord from the top of a wire wicket, which is stood upon its ends on the floor or lawn, and a grooved block, which has an opening to receive a ball to be propelled by a stroke from a cue held in the hand of the player; the object being to strike the suspended ball with the ball in the block. The shallow groove in the block is to give steadiness and accuracy to the stroke of the cue." (Patent Number 158,655)
