Description
Silver tureen which is part of an eleven piece presentation service (tureen, 2 sauce boats, 4 vegetable dishes - 2 with stands and warmers - and 4 salts) given to Samuel Francis Du Pont for his service as superintendent of the 1853 New York Crystal Palace. This service was used aboard the U.S.S. Minnesota during his Oriental voyage.
