Grose declares in his patent application, “My invention has for its object to furnish a simple, convenient, and efficient machine, by which the clothes will be quickly and thoroughly washed by the circulation of steam and hot water, and which shall be so constructed as to allow dirty water to be drawn of and replaced with clean hot water when desired…” (Patent Number 98,585)
