Doremus's invention "relates to an improvement in locks designed principally for drawers and cupboards" where it "frequently becomes desirable, when one's keys are misplaced or not convenient, to quickly lock the drawer or door, particularly when suddenly called away from the drawers of desks or those containing valuables."
