Description
Steckel's patent was "intended as a substitute for the fixed iron gratings or bars in basement, store, and other windows, so as to provide a shutter that may be folded and turned, making the room more cheerful, and facilitating the cleaning of the windows, &c., while combining, when locked, the same degree of safety as the bars." (Patent Number 193,195)
