Thompson assigned three eights of his rights to Charles Fitz. His patent "is a new and useful Improvement in the Arrangements of the Berths, Cots, Settees, Cars, Lounges, and Chairs of Ships and other Vessels, the purpose of which is to prevent or to cure such sickness at sea as may be produced by the action of the vessel." (Patent Number 193,837)
