Description
Whitney's patent solves the problem of damaging the uppers of shoes during removal of lasts when manufacturing boots and shoes with high insteps. His solution is "making the last with special provision for withdrawing the block without strain upon the upper, or for dropping the block previous to its withdrawal." This is done by making the last with an extra upper block which can be removed separately. (Patent Number 128,688)
