Description
Emily Tassey's patent provides "means for discharging large quantities of water - as from a coffer-dam or dry-dock - into the river. It consists of a carved tube and draft-tube with regulating-valves, communicating with a propeller-pump or other mechanical device for raising water, which combination preserves and utilizes the velocity of the water in the pump by permitting it to discharge in an ascending and widening curved siphon-tube, and then descend in a draft-tube containing a greater area of water than the suction-pipe."
