Description
The object of Whitney's invention "is to produce a binder in which the elevator required in all the machines now in use to raise the gavel to the binding apparatus is dispensed with, and the whole mechanism arranged at or about the level of the platform, another desideratum sought being that the whole machine, with the binder, shall not present a greater front than any of the well-known types of reaping-machines." (Patent Number 206,846)
